- Contact the insurance company as soon as possible after the mishap and file your claim without making any mistakes. Always follow the insurer instructions and advice to avoid any communication gap and difficulties that may delay the entire process.

- Do not try to settle the matter without informing the police or the insurance company. This is illegal and may lead to breach of agreement between you and your car insurance company.

- Before moving the damaged car to the garage of your own choice, consult with the insurer. They may have a list of garages in your locality. It will save you from any kind of complications in future.

- If any additional damage is found which was not noticed initially at the time of repairing and the entire estimation gets changed, you should immediately get in touch with the insurer clarify who will make the payment.

- Check the car thoroughly at the garage itself after its repairs. You can bring your car back home only when you are satisfied.

- Obtain a receipt containing the details of the work done along with the total amount to be paid from the repairing shop. You may have to produce it to the insurance company later to submit your claim.
